PRE-CARE AND POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Chemical Peels

Proper preparation and aftercare are the keys to achieving a clear, smooth, and rejuvenated complexion. At Dixi’s MediSpa, we provide these professional guidelines to ensure your chemical peels in Shreveport, LA are safe, comfortable, and deliver transformative results.

Two Weeks Prior to Your Chemical Peel

  • Sun Protection: Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. A chemical peel cannot be performed on sunburned or windburned skin.

  • No Self-Tanners: Discontinue the use of self-tanning products at least 14 days before your appointment to prevent uneven penetration of the peel.

  • Avoid Aggressive Treatments: Do not undergo laser hair removal, waxing, or microdermabrasion in the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior.

Three to Five Days Prior to Your Chemical Peel

  • Pause Active Ingredients: Stop using all Retinoids (Retin-A, Tretinoin, Retinol), Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Vitamin C serums.

  • Avoid Exfoliation: Discontinue the use of facial scrubs, mechanical exfoliating brushes, or any harsh topical treatments that may increase skin sensitivity.

  • Cold Sore Prevention: If you are prone to cold sores, please consult with our team or your doctor about starting an antiviral medication prior to your peel.

Day of Treatment

  • Clean Skin Only: Arrive with a clean face—no makeup, perfumes, or heavy lotions.

  • Men’s Grooming: If treating the face, avoid shaving the morning of the appointment to prevent extra sensitivity; shaving the night before is recommended.

What to Expect During & After a Chemical Peel

  • The "Spicy" Sensation: You may feel a warm, tingling, or "spicy" sensation during the application, which typically subsides within minutes.

  • The Peeling Process: Depending on the depth of the peel, you may experience "flaking" or visible peeling starting around Day 3 and lasting for 3–7 days.

  • Temporary Darkening: Pigmented areas may temporarily look darker (the "frosting" effect) before they flake off to reveal brighter skin.

Post-Treatment Care

  • CLEAN: Use a very gentle, soap-free cleanser and lukewarm water. Do not scrub or use a washcloth on the peeling skin.

  • HYDRATE: Apply a bland, soothing moisturizer (like a barrier repair cream) frequently throughout the day to keep the skin hydrated and reduce tightness.

  • PROTECT: This is the most critical step. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Your new skin is extremely susceptible to UV damage during the healing phase.

What to Avoid After Chemical Peels

  • HANDS OFF: Do not pick, peel, or pull at the flaking skin. Doing so can cause permanent scarring or hyperpigmentation. Let the skin shed naturally.

  • Active Skincare: Avoid Retinols, AHAs/BHAs, and Vitamin C for 7–10 days or until the skin has completely finished peeling.

  • Heat & Sweat: Avoid saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise for 48 hours as sweat can cause irritation or blistering.

  • Sun Exposure: Strictly avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks to protect your refreshed complexion.
