What is Botox® / a wrinkle relaxer?

Botox® is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A. When I inject it, it blocks the nerve signal that tells a muscle to contract, so the muscle relaxes and the skin above it smooths out. It's been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002, so this isn't new or experimental — it's one of the most well-studied treatments I offer.

Is Botox® the same thing as filler?

No, and I explain this distinction to almost every new client. Filler adds volume — it's typically hyaluronic acid that plumps up a line or a hollow area. Botox doesn't add anything; it relaxes the muscle that's causing the wrinkle in the first place. If you're dealing with deeper, more established lines, I sometimes recommend combining the two for the best result.

In my chair, the most common requests are the forehead, the "11 lines" between the eyebrows, and crow's feet around the eyes. I also treat lip lines, chin dimpling, and jawline slimming for clients who want a softer, more balanced look.

Does Botox® it hurt?

Honestly, no — most of my clients are surprised at how quick and manageable it is. I use a very fine needle, and each injection takes just a second. Most people describe it as a light pinch, nothing more.

How long does my appointment take?

Plan on about 15 minutes in my chair, including a quick consult before we start. It's an easy treatment to fit into a lunch break here in Shreveport — no need to clear your whole afternoon.

When will I see results with Botox®, and how long will they last?

You'll start noticing changes within 3–5 days, with full results settling in by about two weeks. From there, most of my clients enjoy their results for 3–4 months, sometimes longer depending on your skin, your muscle strength, and the area we treated.

Is there any downtime for Botox®?

Accepted Answer

Very little. I ask my clients to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and rubbing or massaging the treated area for about 4 hours afterward. Outside of that, you can go right back to your normal day — pick the kids up, head to work, whatever you've got going on.

What side effects of Botox® should I know about?

The most common things I see are mild redness, slight swelling, or a small bruise at the injection site, and these typically resolve on their own within a day or two. Rare side effects like eyelid drooping or asymmetry are almost always linked to inexperienced injectors, which is exactly why I take my time with every treatment plan and never rush a client through.

Am I too young — or too old — to start Botox®?

There's no magic age. I have clients in their late twenties who come in as a preventative step before lines set in, and I have clients in their sixties who are treating wrinkles that have been there for years. What matters most is your skin, your goals, and a real consultation — not a number.

Can I get Botox® if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

I don't treat clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and I'll always ask about this at your consultation. It's simply not worth the risk when the data isn't there to confirm it's safe.

How often will I need to come back for Botox®?

Since the effects are temporary, most of my clients rebook every 3–4 months to maintain their results. I'll help you build a schedule that keeps you looking refreshed year-round without overdoing it.

Will Botox® make me look "frozen"?

Not in my chair. I dose conservatively and build your treatment plan around your own facial movement, not a one-size-fits-all number of units. My goal is always for you to look like a well-rested version of yourself — not like you had "work done."
