PRE-CARE AND POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Laser Treatments
Proper preparation and aftercare are the keys to achieving permanent hair reduction and smooth, irritation-free skin. At Dixi’s MediSpa, we provide these professional guidelines to ensure your Laser Treatment in Shreveport, LA is safe, comfortable, and highly effective.
Two Weeks Prior to Your Laser Treatment
-
Sun Protection: Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. Laser treatments cannot be performed on sunburned or heavily tanned skin, as this increases the risk of burns.
-
No Self-Tanners: Discontinue the use of self-tanning creams, sprays, or professional tans, as the pigment can interfere with the laser’s ability to safely target the hair follicle or skin concern.
-
Stop Pulling Hair: Do not wax, pluck, thread, or use mechanical epilators. The hair root must be present in the follicle for the laser to be effective. (Shaving is the only acceptable method).
Three Days Prior to Your Laser Treatment
-
Pause Active Ingredients: Stop using Retinol, Tretinoin, Glycolic Acid, and Salicylic Acid in the treatment area to prevent excessive skin sensitivity or irritation.
-
Monitor Medications: Ensure you have finished any photosensitizing medications (like certain antibiotics) at least 7 to 14 days before your appointment. Consult your doctor if you are unsure.
Day of Treatment
-
Shave the Area: Use a clean, fresh razor to shave the entire treatment area within 24 hours of your visit. The hair should be flush with the skin so the laser energy travels directly to the root rather than burning hair on the surface.
-
Clean Skin Only: Arrive with skin free of lotions, oils, deodorants, perfumes, or makeup. These can act as a barrier or cause adverse reactions when they interact with the laser beam.
What to Expect After Laser Treatment
-
The "Snap" Sensation: You may feel a quick sensation similar to a rubber band snap, often followed by a cooling mist or "cryogen" from our advanced laser systems.
-
Follicular Edema: It is normal to see small red bumps or slight swelling around the follicles (resembling a mild heat rash) for a few hours to two days.
-
No Downtime: Most clients return to their normal Shreveport activities immediately, though the treated area may feel like a mild sunburn.
Post-Treatment Care
-
CLEAN: Gently cleanse the treated area with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry; do not rub or scrub the skin.
-
SOOTHE: Apply pure cortisol recommended by your technician to draw out heat and reduce redness.
-
PROTECT: This is critical. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. Laser-treated skin is temporarily more vulnerable to UV damage and hyperpigmentation.
-
EXFOLIATE: Starting 5–7 days after treatment, gently exfoliate with a soft washcloth to help "shed" the treated hairs as they naturally work their way out of the follicle.
What to Avoid After Laser Treatment
-
Heat & Sweat: Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours to prevent trapping excess heat in the skin.
-
Sun Exposure: Strictly avoid direct sun and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks post-treatment to prevent permanent pigment changes.
-
Picking or Plucking: Do not pull out hairs that appear to be growing back. These are likely "shedding" hairs being pushed out by the body. Let them fall out naturally.
-
Harsh Chemicals: Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools or using strong chemical exfoliants (AHAs/BHAs) for at least 3 days.
