Lip Filler Before and After: What Realistic Results Look Like
Before-and-after photos are the best way to judge a lip filler provider, and also the easiest way to be misled. Lips right after injection look very different from lips two weeks later. This guide shows what to expect at each stage, so you know what you’re looking at.

The lip filler timeline, stage by stage
Stage | What you’ll see |
Immediately after | Lips look fuller and may feel tight. Mild redness at injection points |
Day 1–2 | Peak swelling. Lips may look larger or uneven |
Day 3–5 | Swelling settles. Texture starts to feel softer |
About 2 weeks | Final shape and softness. This is the result to judge |
Bruising, if any | Usually fades within about a week |
The big takeaway: don’t judge your lips on day one. Wait until about two weeks before deciding whether you want more.
How much filler gives a natural look?
At Dixi’s MediSpa, lip filler is available in amounts from 0.5 mL to 1 mL, starting at $350.
• 0.5 mL: a subtle refresh for definition and hydration.
• 1 mL: a more noticeable change in fullness.
Most first-timers do well starting small. You can always add more once your lips have settled. We use the RHA® Collection by Revance (RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA Dynamic), and your provider chooses the product for your lips and goals. Cleveland Clinic has a general overview of dermal fillers.

Different goals, different techniques
• Classic lip filler adds volume and shape. From $350.
• Russian lips ($750) uses a technique designed to define the Cupid’s bow and give a lifted, upward look.
• Lip flip ($100) uses a wrinkle relaxer to relax the muscle around the upper lip, so the lip shows slightly more, without filler.

What makes a result look natural
1. Proportion. The lips fit your face, not an image from social media.
2. Symmetry that looks human. Perfect symmetry looks unnatural; balance matters.
3. Shape and hydration first. Volume is the last thing to add.
4. A conservative first treatment. Small steps are easier to build on than to undo.
Lip filler swelling: what’s normal and what’s not
Normal: swelling, tenderness, mild bruising, slight asymmetry in the first days.
Call your provider if you notice: severe or worsening pain, skin that turns pale, white, or dusky, blistering, vision changes, or swelling that keeps worsening after several days. These are rare but need prompt attention. The FDA’s dermal filler do’s and don’ts are also worth a read before treatment.
Not happy with the result? You have options
Hyaluronic acid filler can be adjusted. Lip filler dissolve ($250) uses hyaluronidase to break down unwanted filler. See our lip filler dissolve page.
How to read any before-and-after gallery
• Check the lighting and angle: are the before and after taken the same way?
• Look for photos at 2 weeks, not just right after
• Ask whether photos are real clients of that provider
• Look for a range of results, not one dramatic case.
Frequently asked questions
When do lip filler results look final? About two weeks after treatment.
Is bruising normal? Some people bruise, and it usually fades within about a week.
Will I look overfilled? Not if you begin conservatively and plan adjustments. Tell your provider the look you want.
Can lip filler be reversed? Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. The FDA also explains how dermal fillers are regulated as medical devices.
