Medical Weight Loss in Marshall, TX: How a Supervised GLP-1 Program Works

What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss means a licensed provider evaluates your health, sets a plan, and, when appropriate, prescribes medication alongside nutrition and lifestyle support. It is different from a quick-fix diet or an unmonitored supplement.

How do GLP-1 medications work?

GLP-1 medications mimic a natural gut hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. They reduce appetite, slow digestion, and help you feel fuller for longer, which makes it easier to eat less without constant hunger. MedlinePlus explains how GLP-1 agonists work in more detail.

At Dixi’s MediSpa, the medications your provider may consider include:

•            Semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication

•            Tirzepatide, a GLP-1/GIP medication that some patients find gives greater appetite control and fullness

Whether a medication is right for you, and which one, is decided by your provider based on your medical history, current weight, and weight-related concerns. The NIDDK, part of the National Institutes of Health, has a plain-language guide to prescription medications for overweight and obesity.

What is included in the program?

•            Initial medical consultation and comprehensive health assessment

•            Review of your medical history

•            Weight, body measurements, and vital signs

•            Physician-supervised treatment plan

•            Weekly injections administered in the office, if prescribed

•            Monthly follow-up visits

•            Medication dose adjustments when appropriate

•            Personalized nutrition guidance, protein and hydration education, and healthy lifestyle recommendations

•            Ongoing support throughout the program

How much does it cost?

Programs at Dixi’s MediSpa range from $399 to $499. Financing plans are available: see our financing page.

What to expect, step by step

1.           Consultation. We talk through your history, lifestyle, and goals.

2.           Candidacy decision. Your provider decides whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate and which one.

3.           Start and weekly visits. If prescribed, you come in weekly for your injection.

4.           Monthly check-ins. We review progress and adjust the dose when appropriate.

5.           Plan for the long term. Some patients stay on medication long-term; others stop once they reach their goals. This is decided together at follow-up visits.

What results can I expect?

Results vary. Many patients see gradual progress over several months with consistent injections, nutrition, and follow-up. Diet and exercise changes are part of the program, not an optional extra, and they matter most for keeping the weight off.

Common early side effects

Common early side effects include mild nausea, GI adjustments, and a temporary dip in appetite, especially in the first weeks or after a dose increase. These are usually manageable and improve over time. Read our full guide on side effects and when to call your provider.

Who is not a candidate?

GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for everyone. They are not suitable for people with certain medical conditions or histories that your provider will review at your consultation. Tell us about all your medications and conditions, including pregnancy or plans to become pregnant. The FDA-approved labels for Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) list the full warnings and who should not use them.

Your medical team

The program is supervised by Dr. Randall Brewer, MD, who graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School, trained in anesthesiology at Duke University, and completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the Mayo Clinic Florida. He has practiced in Shreveport since 2004.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide? Both are used for appetite control. Tirzepatide acts on GLP-1 and GIP; semaglutide acts on GLP-1. Your provider picks based on your health and goals.

Will I regain the weight if I stop? Weight regain is more likely if lifestyle changes are not maintained. The program includes accountability, nutrition guidance, and monthly check-ins to help you keep results.

Do I need to change my diet? Yes. Nutrition and activity are part of the plan.

Where do I go for my weekly injection? At our Marshall, TX office, if prescribed.
